A Historic Street
Böttcherstrasse can be traced back to the Middle Ages: coopers (“Böttcher”) - or barrel makers - lived and worked on this street (“strasse”), which was an important link between the Weser River and the central market square in the city of Bremen. Due to the relocation of the port and the general decline of crafts in the second half of the 19th century, the importance of this ‘street of barrel makers’ began to fade. In 1902 the owners of the house located at Böttcherstrasse 6 - the most beautiful and the oldest house on the street - persuaded the Bremen coffee magnate Ludwig Roselius to buy the building.
Roselius first used the house as an office for his company, Roselius & Co., later Kaffee HAG.
